3 Wineries in Melbourne That Can’t Be Missed
Roll down your car window, grab a few friends and go explore the Yarra Valley winery selection this weekend.
With rolling green hills, dreamy swaying vineyards and old farmhouses, the wineries in the Yarra Valley are not to be missed. Did we mention it’s less than an hour’s drive from the CBD? Don’t muck around, get exploring and start sipping on some unforgettable wines now.
Only a few small steps from Melbourne, Giant Steps is a single-range vineyard that is both admired and adored by wine veterans and newcomers alike. Inspired by legendary saxophonist John Coltraine’s 1960 album of the same name, the overall estate has a jazz inspired atmosphere to it from the moody decor to the darker colour palette.
Inside the winery is a beautiful, wide space that has been split into a groovy wine bar and dining area. Out the back hosts an open kitchen for all the curious foodies and a barrell hall for wine tasting. Their menu is filled with delicious dishes inspired by the best ingredients from both the local area and abroad. If you pop into the barrel hall you will be presented with a range of their famous Steve Flamsteed’s chardonnays to sip upon. Overall, a very immersive, relaxing winery experience ideal for a laid back Sunday.
TarraWarra Estate is a stunning and totally Instagram-worthy winery that is highly regarded not only in Melbs, but the whole wine world. With gorgeous rolling green hills filled with layered vineyards, a cellar door, art gallery and restaurant just waiting to be explored, it’s as close to perfect as a winery gets.
You can visit the cellar door to sample their raved about Pinot Noirs or Chardonnays for only $5 per person. Alternatively, tuck into the flavorsome menu at their restaurant hidden away in the estate’s never-ending vineyard and enjoy delights such as the fresh market fish with black olive and baby peppers or pork loin with pressed apple and cider sauce.
Innocent Bystander is a casual yet killer winery perched perfectly in Healesville and set in the former White Rabbit brewery. From the moment you walk through the door, you’ll be greeted by a real ‘beer hall’ atmosphere with the likes of Prosecco (our personal fave), Syrah and other affordable wines all poured from draught taps. If you’re looking for the ideal spot to explore and grab a bite to eat with the squad on a chilled-out Saturday, then this is a must-see. The food menu is filled with a range of mouth-watering, wood-fired pizzas and share dishes designed to compliment their range of wines
